A Land of Miracles

Michael Medved held by his great-grandfather, Samuel Idstein

My kid brother Harry recently unearthed an old photograph showing me as a baby, held proudly by my great-grandfather, Samuel Idstein. He was close to 90 at the time, having left Germany with his family just before World War II. Neither he nor his six children ever attended college but all of his grandchildren did, becoming educators, research scientists, doctors and rabbis.

America made the difference, and this story is typical, not exceptional. Countless immigrant families have built lives their ancestors could have scarcely imagined.

Here, a great-great granddaughter of a slave can win a Nobel Prize, or the grandson of an illiterate railroad worker can become a CEO.

Rather than despairing over recent history, we should review family history that reminds us we live in a land of miracles that deserves our protection through exercising our precious right to vote.

Or that fed reserve member banks can create a giant home for all their collective debt and magically “bury” it into trillions in tax payer relief TARP and QE(currency expansion/“quantitative easing”).
America really is a land of miracles

Why should non-citizens be given the right to vote? I'd like to know what you all think about that. It's come up a couple times this week.

    • Nani Tavares  •  Oct 25, 2018 at 12:17 am

The answer is simple. The Dems want power so badly, they will take it from those who have no right to give it. I read somewhere that if illegals told us they would vote Republican, that wall on the border would be built so high, you could see it from space. It's all about power. These past few weeks, beginning with the disgusting way they treated Kavanaugh showed exactly what the Dems would do rule.

    • Rizzo  •  Oct 25, 2018 at 12:22 pm

And that's just it…. they should have NO right to vote.
They shouldn't even be here. But that's how the leftists do it.
Even a leftist, like Ty, will say that illegals shouldn't vote…. but, incrementally, they will start to make the argument. Remember when it was a non-partisan, agreed upon that illegals shouldn't have drivers licenses. That has changed.
The left is one big slimey, slippery slope of, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
They think they can acquire and keep power through illegal immigration, so they are for it…. they certainly don't oppose it.

    • Ty  •  Oct 25, 2018 at 3:43 pm

Who is saying non citizens should be given the right to vote? Seriously? Are you talking about the boogeyman of illegals voting like that guy Michael had on earlier? I remember the talk of some 1500 potential cases of voter fraud. I'd like some independent confirmation of that number because I believe conservative fear mongers lie all the time. But there are reports in Georgia that upwards of FIFTY THOUSAND people have been purged from the voter rolls.

By what criteria? being dead? more like your name has duplicates elsewhere…. wtf is that crap!

OF COURSE there are going to be name duplicates, and it just so happened that 2/3 of the people with duplicate names were non white, what a surprise. Non white people are more likely to have the same names for first and last name, this is ANOTHER one of those cases where you can isolate a difference between the white population and other populations (think of how many asian parents named their son DAVID, with a last name of Kim, woops, duplicates !!!!!! removed!) and disproportionately tilt the election against non white voters.

This is legal, but it is unethical and wrong, and republicans across the nation are engaged in it. THIS is voter suppression, and the numbers involved here vastly outweigh the trickle of cases of actual voter fraud.

And that does not even touch on election security.

      https://www.vox.com/2018/10/25/18001684/2018-midterms-hacked-russia-election-security-voting

This should worry more conservatives, you keep focusing on the "alien other" illegal immigrant voting to tilt the scales against you, but what about ACTUAL foreign threats to election security?

ALL election systems should have higher standards than we currently have, and paper ballots with receipts should be MANDATED. But of course, that would require regulation and LAWS, and you lot are so mentally broken and corrupted as American conservatives the mere mention of such a think is likely to send you reeling in disgust. Of course, regulation of traffic and speeds on the road are fine, as are numerous other regulations conservatives have no problem with, but some minimum standard for election machine security, THAT would be a bridge too far and send us down the road to serfdom and the perennial VENEZUELA.

This is why American conservatism is such a joke, your priorities are fears are all cracked and ass backwards.

Do you read the news? Do a simple google search you simpleton. Several liberal areas in california have proposed or have already given non-citizens the right to vote in local elections. I remember a place in Maryland proposing it to. If liberals had the power, they would enforce such a policy at all levels. I didn't get past your first idiotic sentence, so I wont respond to the rest of your irrational keyboard vomit.

Looks like Ty doesn’t like something again…. what should he do?
Ooh ooh, I know…. cry racism!
90% of Ty’s life can be summed-up by racism.

        PATHETIC!

  3. Rizzo  •  Oct 25, 2018 at 6:01 pm

“ALL election systems should have higher standards than we currently have”
If voter integrity is your goal, there is ONLY ONE CHOICE, and it ain’t the Democratic libtards.
Voter fraud is the fabric of the Democratic Party!

Wow, the Left is truly un American and evil. First they deny presumption of innocence. Now they are attacking the first amendment. Megan Kelly expressed her opinion about Halloween dress up and now she's fired. Rosanne lost her gig because of her tweets. I could list incident after incident where the Left has said some really sick things but get away with it because of the first amendment. But when it comes to anyone else exercising their right to speak, the Left sends out their word police.

I am fortunate as I don't have to fear losing a job or a relationship. I don't have to walk on egg shells. But I do have a whole list of t.v. shows, music, and movies I avoid because those people have decided that pushing their agenda is more important than not pissing off a whole segment of the population.

It is beyond sad that Liberals have brought us to this.

    • Rizzo  •  Oct 27, 2018 at 7:34 am

Yep… Megan Kelly must go. But Joy Reid, the show must go on.

Does anyone else find it funny, interesting, hypocritical, whatever, that every time leftists in America don’t get their way, they threaten to move to Canada?
Isn’t Mexico an option? Why don’t these clueless, racist, leftists ever threaten to move to Mexico?

    • Nani Tavares  •  Oct 27, 2018 at 2:07 pm

They promise to leave but don’t. All talk. Not only do they promise to go to Canada instead of Mexico, they refuse to, on “principle”, to not take any money from that evil America!

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/23/business/economy/amazon-workers-sears-bankruptcy-filing.html

Interesting article, and the top reader comment seems to have a very… liberal sentiment:

"I actually walk the walk on this one. My 3 employees are paid the best in the business. They get vacation and generous bonuses on top of salary. I could pay them a lot less.

But I do the work too. And I understand the work it takes to run the business. Back in the day, before the MBA, executives earned salaries that were not insane compared to workers. There was respect for workers. Ask Amazon, Tyson foods, or any university president and they have actual disdain for workers.

I can buy most of the stuff I want. I get to take vacations, I have savings. So maybe I don’t get first class tickets. I can’t blow money in Vegas because I work to hard to earn it. What is so wrong that my employees get to do the same stuff I do? "

More of a sense that the owner wants the people that work for him to thrive too, not filled with the kind of sociopathic indifference seen in so many businesses.

    • Rizzo  •  Oct 29, 2018 at 7:48 am

So, I assume you regularly shop at Sears and totally reject Amazon.

    • Rizzo  •  Oct 29, 2018 at 10:58 am

Businesses “filled with sociopathic indifference”…. isn’t Amazon owned by Jeff Bezos?
What exactly is his political ideology/affiliation?

    • Ty  •  Nov 1, 2018 at 2:18 am

We are beyond Trumps tax returns mattering to his base. They don't care if he is a con artist on a dozen issues, he just needs to toss out red meat like pretending the 14th amendment does not say what is plain for all to see, that the children of illegals born in the US are citizens. The nativist wing of his base despises that LAW, they despise that line in the constitution, which is why the lazy puerile talk of them being so concerned about the rule of LAW was always a decoy that was the best secular argument and card they had to offer in public, while hiding the deeper animus inside them of not wanting a certain kind of person allowed to be part of a nation.

To them, you could call it the death of a nation, with much of the same lineage of Birth of a Nation as its core ethic.

      • Rizzo  •  Nov 1, 2018 at 2:06 pm

        Ty
You are completely ignorant on the 14th. Amendment.
If you need a lesson, I’ll be happy to learn ya.
Otherwise, just go back to promoting your lawless, anarchy, which you call Utopia.

Is this the ty Nani rizzo (some wap) blog?

  10. Armand  •  Nov 1, 2018 at 11:54 pm

Yes, those three morons do most of the typing.
Ty is your typical unreconstructed Democrat idiot. And rizzo is a barely literate middle eastern religion but who knows nothing about economics, won’t comment on health care or eliminating collective bargaining unionized police but calls himself “conservative”
America, as dumb as the tests say it is
