Attack Policies, Not Intentions

After stinging electoral defeat and in the midst of stalled budget negotiations, some leading conservatives impute dark motives to Barack Obama. According to these arguments, the president will go over the fiscal cliff to wreck the economy, destroy capitalism, and transform America.

This notion ignores the fact that economic catastrophe undermines a president’s popularity, the ultimate source of his power. Even if it were true that Obama insanely desired economic disaster, saying so in public wouldn’t stop him, and would only make it easier to blame obstructionist Republicans. And if it’s not true that Obama means to damage America, and if the nation somehow dodges the worst economic dangers, then these charges discredit the conservative cause.

Of course, conservatives should fiercely oppose Obama’s misguided policies and big government goals, but if we emphasize conspiratorial intentions then we damage ourselves.

I have to admit, my instincts do lead me to see the President as a dangerous ego wrapped up in a photogenic package.
Could I be wrong about his motives? Sure, that's why we have to let God be the ultimate judge. Yet we must make the best judgments we can to make our way in life. Allowing for error, I still must conclude this man has his own best interests at heart.
He's a politician, so that goes without saying. But history has shown how untrustworthy leaders can be. And the results can be catastrophic.
Is it any wonder I lean on prayer, rather than men?
Stay strong, Mike. And keep up the good work!

    mike,
for sure prayer is the best hope we have in theses times we live and i’ve pondered on many things with this leader of ours. but their is one thing for sure the sciptures are vary plain about nations rising and falling and who God places in theses high places. no matter what the out come one thing is for sure God will give the people the desires of their hearts and in that process He will bring a people to Himself in the aftermath.

As always Michael gives great advice on debating with the misguided, but no matter how much you point out that Obama has done nothing to prevent the current fiscal issues, they will still blame Bush.
