There’s a bitter joke going around Israel concerning President Obama’s feckless response to the current fighting in Gaza. “Obama says he wants to negotiate a cease fire between Israel and Hamas,” Israeli cynics observe. “Bibi Netanyahu should agree—on the condition that he gets to negotiate a cease fire between America and Al Qaeda.” The point is that everyone knows a true cease fire is impossible with Al Qaeda: they don’t want America to compromise or change, they want America destroyed. By the same token, Hamas isn’t launching hundreds of rocket attacks because they want Israel to change, or to alter specific policies. They demand the Jewish state disappear, as their charter proudly declares.

When facing an existential challenge, negotiation is meaningless—for America or Israel. Terrorist groups pledged to your destruction can’t be appeased—they must be defeated, or at least strictly limited in their ability to do harm.

It might be a bitter joke, but it is also sad and so true and terrifying.

“Everyone knows that a true cease fire is impossible with Al Qaeda.” Everyone?

The Obama administration has given lip service to the idea of absolute enmity between ourselves and such groups as Al Qaeda, but ultimately does not have the requisite moral resources or worldview to back it up and stick with it as policy.

The worldview of Obama and his administration and of the Democrat Party as a whole is that of Political Correctness–an incoherent mish-mash of Third Worldism, identity politics, and collectivism of all sorts. In foreign policy they are governed by a therapeutic approach to America’s backward, frightening, illiberal foreign adversaries. At home, in relation to their political opponents, they give no quarter. Soft and soft-headed abroad, relentless, intolerant, and totalitarian at home.

We all know that Barak lives in a dream world. He sees things the way he thinks they oughta be, then opines or tries to affect policy based on that. He’s ruining the country!

When over 1,000 rockets fall on the White House, targeting Obama, Michelle, and the girls – we’ll see how much “restraint” he preaches then. Until then, he needs to shut up and let Israel handle things.
