WHY I.D. FOR TRAVEL OR GUNS, BUT NOT FOR VOTING?

If it’s somehow racist and discriminatory to require identification as a condition for voting, then how is it any less discriminatory to impose similar conditions for air travel, mortgages, receiving or cashing government checks, or purchasing guns?

Voting is a crucial right—but so is the ability to purchase property or to keep and bear arms. The Democratic claim that black people don’t have equal access to identification is obviously false: black voting participation in crucial states actually went up after new rules requiring ID as a condition of voting.

The Democratic attacks on the GOP for “voter suppression” are merely another example of perpetuating a narrative of victimization, in order to keep black voters frightened and dependent. Obviously, the best way to move those without identification into the mainstream of politics and the economy is to provide them with ID, not to pretend that they can function just as well without it.

Here’s the problem- all those other circumstances allows someone to return with ID and resolve the issue, with voting this not always possible. Also, let’s not gloss over the ID part. States are requiring very specific forms of ID. And lastly, cons are woefully overstating the need for ID in day to day life. I live a pretty normal active life with travel, work, and business transActions and I can’t remember the last time I was asked for ID.

I am asked daily for an I.D. when I use my credit card. And I’m glad that establishments ask. It protects from fraud, and isn’t that what we want? Both left and the right should want protection from fraud.

“Protection” is not free. There is a cost. As for the example stated above, requiring ID when using a credit card, that kind of reinforces the idea that if you need and don’t have it you can always conduct that transaction later, plus most businesses have other means to confirm ID when documents are not available. These new laws make no room for that. Even if poll worker can vouch for the identification of a voter by personal knowledge, they are still not allowed to vote.

Its ridicules to contend that competent people can’t produce state issued, picture ID’s for the purpose of voting. Is it your stance that the poor and minorities are incompetent or stupid, so much so, that they are unable to attain the proper ID, prior to the polls opening on Election Days? Because the poor and minorities are not either of those! I live in a state that requires state issued, picture ID’s for the purchase of alcohol and cigarettes (no exceptions). The poor, minorities and even homeless people produce their ID when they make these purchases. Properly cast votes are too important to allow fraud to be perpetrated by people who don’t identify themselves and then cast multiple votes at various polling locations.

What is expected from street hoodlums running the show? I’m not surprised. These thugs are just running the rackets, from their perspective. Remember the corrupt situation in pre WWII China, coming out of the opium/drug trade economy. We are in the same situation. Racketeers were jailed, once-upon-a-time; today they are legitimized, and maintain their power base by playing the administration law angle to accomplish their end goal(s). Also, it is very questionable if admin law is constitutional (see Hamburger’s article in Imprimis, September 2014). To close, Lord Acton’s quote is right on: “Political atheism: End justifies the means. This is still the most widespread of all the opinions inimical to liberty.”
