Obama, Not GOP, Should Be Embarrassed by the Shutdown

Despite relentless hype from mainstream media about a looming “Civil War” in the GOP, Republicans should feel no embarrassment about the way their leaders ended the government shutdown and debt ceiling crisis. John Boehner placed the good of the country and the welfare of its citizens above pursuit of ideological abstractions; even House members aligned with the Tea Party expressed support for his steady leadership.

President Obama, on the other hand, proved all too willing to damage the struggling economy and to cause discomfort to millions rather than offer the slightest willingness to compromise on the disastrous roll-out of Obamacare. When voters look back on the federal shutdown they should remember which party was eager to work out positive, bi-partisan changes to fix a broken process and which party refused to bend at all, even to avert disaster.

Ridiculously wrong! The President followed the long standing policy of our government in not negotiating with the Teaorists who sought to hold our economy hostage for the sake of their extremist ideology. If he had given in, what government program would they have targeted next? They chose to pass on their opportunity to have input into the Affordable Care Act a long time ago, preferring the politics of No Compromise to having a say in solving the problem. When voters look back on the federal shutdown they should remember which party has spent 6 years doing everything they can to keep the country from recovering from the last Republican administration and rightly consider how much farther along we might be if they hadn’t fought so hard to deny the President any progress at all.

You are in a dream state spouting Liberal talking points ad nauseam. With Bush we could wake up every day, happy to be Americans and feeling secure physically and financially. He wasn’t perfect but could be trusted. Of course, Liberals like to say he lied about Chemicals of mass destruction. But, of course, the British contributed to the information that led Bush AND CONGRESS to decide to go to war. Obama has had one scandal after another and holds no one accountable. He is either totally inept in his job or evil. You’re just another of his clones trying to blame Bush for every stupid thing that has happened in the 5 years this regime has had us under their control. You’d rather be destroyed than admit you’re wrong. You’re uninformed and misinformed. Try listening to the other side occasionally. It’s the only way to make a realistic decision on anything. We should all be working with one another to solve the problems in our country, not falling into the trap Obama has set to drive us apart for his advancement, not ours. You’re the one that’s deluded but I don’t hate you like you seem to hate Conservatives. Lighten up and start using common sense.

I would advise you to read your history. You would find out that the truth is just the opposite of what you believe. It has for a long time been the standard to negotiate. Going back to at least President Eisenhower. Further, the house submitted several spending bills that were not even brought up for a vote in the Senate. What would you call that. It was the Senate Democrats and the Presidents all or nothing stance that shut the government down. Whether you like that or not that is what happened.
In regards to your statement of holding the economy hostage what would you call all the job killing regulations that this administration has passed. Agencies such as the EPA, The Energy dept, The Commerce Dept and many others are costing this economy billions.
Lastly people with your world view define progress as the growth of government. I will always fight against that

      Jerry,

History will not be kind to this President, no matter how hard he would like to rewrite it. Nearly every president has had huge opposition from democratically elected majorities and found a way to work and unite. No President Obama sadly will not be remembered as the uniter he promised to be. He will be remembered as the divider and grossly incompetent that selfishly misrepresented and misguided so many. I have yet to see Historical reference to presidential accomplishment/failure with an * asterisks. But then again, I have seen terrible history and exception being made everyday with this admin. To your point about where we would be without Republican balanced opposition and representation….It’s scary!

If you want to believe in the tooth fairy, I guess you’ll always think the money under your pillow in exchange for your baby tooth came from — drum roll — the tooth fairy.
