Fairy Tale Lessons for the Merchants of Doom

email Email

Two famous children’s stories, “Chicken Little” and “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” convey an important message for today’s gloom-peddling Left. In both tales, frightened main characters warn of impending disaster—”the sky is falling” or a rampaging wolf will devour the innocent.

In both cases, the protagonists ultimately lose credibility and hyperventilating hysterics in politics and punditry face the same fate. According to prestigious progressives, the end of “net neutrality” means collapse of free media, the GOP tax cuts will tank the economy and crush the middle class, and withdrawal from the Paris Accords signals environmental apocalypse. Worst of all, a Trump White House means the end of Constitutional governance, making implacable “resistance” the only option.

As events unfold and America dodges such disasters, the public will inevitably turn to more balanced perspectives. After all, “Chicken Little” hardly represents an appealing candidate for public office, and Boys Who Cry Wolf don’t deserve to remain trusted media voices.

I'll be sure to record the messages of hope and positivity from the right when democrats take power back, eventually, and enact some of their policy preferences. As a talk radio listener we all know you conservatives were SUCH rays of sunshine when the topic of obama came up and the democrats policies.

Oh yes, let us all be happy… on the terms you've set out…. No. Take your victory lap, but don't expect liberals to cheer it along.

Nobody expects leftists to "cheer on" principles of freedom. We get it, you are leftists and you desire total centralized control over all aspects of our lives.
But damn dude… NEVER in our lifetime, have we ever seen such irrational fear and opposition of a president. It's quite sad and pathetic!

Principles of freedom? I'd rather own a tiny hovel than be a serf in a rented mcmansion. But neither the left nor the right want to allow me that option. Where are the freedom-professing conservatives when I need them?

Michael Medved is a nice, more reasonable conservative who at least invites varying opinions on his radio show. But that doesn't make him any more right. What Michael doesn't acknowledge is that America's worst economic times followed many years of Republican control of Congress and the presidency. Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover's tax cuts and pro business policies contributed to the Great Depression. W. Bush's tax cuts and deregulation contributed to the financial crisis. Republican anti tax, anti government policies always contribute to higher budget deficits and greater inequality. And deregulation of the financial system contributes to financial crises. Michael Medved today is supporting policies that repeat the mistakes of the past. Michael is a smart guy, but he is way too stuck in blind, conservative ideology, which has failed the country time and time again. One final point. Democratic presidents have a far better track record than Republican presidents when it comes to economic growth and stock market performance. Google it if you don't believe me.

Loren, Your post is beyond ludicrous, somewhere out there past Pluto. FDR is the father of American Socialism, LBJ , the author of the War on Poverty. Jimmy Carter preached that double digit inflation is the new norm. Obama doubled the deficit of all Presidents combined before him and armed every terrorist country on Earth nukes and billions of dollars to build their delivery systems with. You must be a University professor to be that stupid.
