Ignoring Real Threats to Push Meaningless Gun Rules

North Korea threatens nuclear war, the Syrian body count approaches a staggering 100,000, Iran proceeds with bomb-building, economic growth stalls and half-a-million Americans abandon the search for work – but the president concentrates his political capital on pushing new regulations on guns.

Instead of focusing on serious threats to peace and prosperity, Mr. Obama makes campaign style appearances to tout enhanced background checks on prospective gun owners. Such regulations are more properly the concern of states and localities, and cities with the strictest gun restrictions – like Chicago – often show the highest rates of gun violence. The president’s defenders express admiration for his political skill, while conceding that new federal rules will do little to improve daily life for ordinary citizens. But continued deficits and a dysfunctional tax system – not to mention war in Korea – could threaten security for every American.

When did any gun control law not infrige on the rights of a free populace with no reduction in violence? An honest, good man with a machine gun is no threat whereas a thug with a single shot pistol is….

I can’t ever remembering such a corrupt group of politicians as exist today. They literally abandon the U.S. economy to twist in the wind putting all their might behind increasing immigration in the worst domestic labor market since the Great Depression and denuding the U.S. Bill of Rights. It’s absolutely shameful and tragic.

Seen on a bumper sticker yesterday–“If gun control worked, Chicago would be like Mayberry.” Too true!

What is missing in the gun control debate is the clear point of beginning of the Second Amendment, was for the armed populace to be a deterrent to the tyranny of government, not for hunting, although it is a basic right for a person to be able to defend themselves against intruders, particularly in a society where law enforcement can’t possibly be there to prevent attacks for everyone. All the “gun control” measures proposed are nothing more than political band aids, so that politicians can claim to “have done something”. If any proposal really would reduce gun crime, then all the cities and states that have the restrictive laws would be the safest, and yet they are the worst places for gun violence, i.e. Detroit, Chicago, etc.
