Message from the Royal Wedding

Media coverage of Britain’s royal wedding focused mostly on breaks with tradition—with a biracial, divorced, American bride and a couple that lived together before marriage.

But the ceremony itself also sent some more traditional messages: in a nation with church attendance half what it is in America, the Christian themes and references must have puzzled secular Britons, joining husband and wife in the eyes of God, not just through power of government. Eight days after Meghan and Harry united their fates, our younger daughter will make a similar commitment when we celebrate her marriage.

We may not provide the lavish trappings of a royal wedding, but bride and groom always reign as queen and king in Jewish tradition.  And may Shayna and Mark always treat one another as royalty!

Love these thoughts on the Royal wedding! As the wife of a Protestant pastor, I noticed these elements in the ceremony as well.

Congratulations to your daughter and your entire family on the upcoming celebrations!

Congratulations on the marriage of your younger daughter and a belated congratulations on the birth of your first grandchild! There is no love like the love of a grandparent for the grandchild.

I appreciated the deeply religious nature of the royal wedding especially combined with the American minister's sermon on the power of love and invoking the name of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Congratulations on "your" marriage Michael and Diane. So cool how your kid are growing up! I can't believe we knew each other as their journies were beginning! Hmmm, "journies" isn't a word?

I had the same thoughts regarding the Royal wedding, Michael! As an English-American, I too notice all the time how standards have deteriorated! A royal wedding in a church with a previously married- and -divorced woman wearing a white dress and with the Queen attending, would not have taken place. I listen to
you every day and hope to get to talk to you “on air” one day.

Congratulations on Shayna's wedding soon! She is a delightful young lady. We met her through my niece, Shannon, who was a high school friend of hers.
