No Market for Mauling the Middle Class

SUBURBICON, the prestigious new movie release from director George Clooney, features Matt Damon and Juliane Moore with a screenplay co-written by the Oscar-winning Coen brothers.

The film opened with high hopes on more than 2,000 screens, but proved to be a commercial disaster with just $2.8 million on opening weekend.  Even more shocking, SUBURBICON got a dismal D-minus grade from CinemaScore—showing the few folks who paid money to see it said they unequivocally hated it.

Why the negative response?

It’s billed as an expose’ of “white privilege”—depicting a fictional suburb in 1959 that reacts to its first black family with disgusting violence and bigotry, while highlighting corruption, adultery and murder by the seemingly bland middle-class family at the center of the dark comedy.

Actually, the public is tired of Hollywood plutocrats who look down on the hard-working, decent suburban lives that many citizens live, and loathes the condescending assumption that the American dream has become the American nightmare.

One would think these stars would read the scripts before agreeing to star in such ridiculous films. What is wrong with them? Such poorly conceived films could sink their careers!

Don't these stars read the scripts before agreeing to star in such poorly conceived films? Agreeing to star in junky films can't do much for their careers.

Why don't you take that crap somewhere else? Nobody cares about your irrational hatred.

I never have understood Hollywood's compulsion to denigrate the suburbs. There are so many movies that show suburban people to be weirdos and psychopaths and secretly wicked and evil. I grew up in the suburbs of a big city and it was a great place to live. Hollywood glamorizes and normalizes so many weird and destructive things and then they run down one of the good things about our nation – the suburbs.

The majority are white, live in suburbs and have "normal" jobs and customs. It makes sense to go after these people. If something is WRONG with mainstream America, then it justifies the Left's demand to change her. And that is the bottom line of all the Left does. They hate this country despite the fact that America has made them rich and provided reams of opportunity for creativity.

This irrational propaganda about those living and growing up in the 'suburbs' is a deliberate myth spread by the urban folk elite that look down their surgically modified noses at suburban life. I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles in the east San Fernando Valley near several movie and television studios including Warner Bros., NBC, Universal, and Disney. In my suburban city lived several movie and television affiliated people. These included Ava Gardner, Bob Hope (before my time, but they both lived there), Ron Howard, Clint Howard, Rene Russo, Manuel Padilla, Johnny Carson, Johnny Grant, and many who worked on stage, sound, and movie sets lived in my neighborhood. And all I knew were decent people from decent families. So this notion that the 'suburbs' are a dystopian nightmare producing racism, nativism, and bigotry would apply also to many of the Hollywood employed individuals, in addition to my friends and family from this area. On the contrary, bigotry is much more evident in the sort of cinematic drivel like Suburbicon that engages in a group smear based on skin pigmentation and urban density.

It’s time the president ends his speeches with: “Jesus Bless America”. Jesus is the one true God.

Jewish plutocrats to be exact. Let’s pray that the Jews in Manhattan fund Jesus, move to the suburbs, and leave the evil cities with their peep shows, drinking joints, and pawn shops.

      You're hilariously antisemitic!
