No Real Diversity

The University of Missouri has become the latest academic institution to require all students to take three credit hours of “Diversity Intensive” instruction: classes that emphasize “inequities” facing racial, sexual, national and disability groups that have been designated as disadvantaged minorities.

While students can benefit from a broad education exposing them to unfamiliar traditions and values, universities make scant effort to provide diversity regarding political or religious ideology. It’s easy to graduate from a four-year college with no exposure at all to conservative ideas about economics and government, and no encounter with traditional Biblical teachings.

Looking at exotic cultures or persecuted victim groups may be intriguing, but most of today’s collegians get their degrees without firm grounding in the culture and history of their own American society: the most prosperous, powerful and liberty-loving nation in all human history.
