The Obscenely Bloated White House Staff

white house

A government shutdown could damage our economy but might serve one useful purpose: focusing attention on obscenely inflated staffing levels for the president and Congress.

The White House announced a shutdown would force the Executive Office of the President to use a “bare bones” staff of just 436—with some 1,265 employees sent home. But are all those assistants really necessary once the crisis passes?

FDR fought Depression and World War with a staff that never topped 140; why does Obama need 12 times more aides? Could he survive with five speechwriters instead of 15? Could Vice President Biden function with 30 aides instead of 90? Would America collapse if the White House Delivery Team used 50 employees instead of today’s 215?

The President should set an example for the rest of the government by permanently shedding unnecessary, duplicative staff positions.

Bloated doesn’t cover it. The White House, the Senate and the House all need to lead by example. When they make mistakes they still get paid. They voted in the laws that protect their booties and their bank books. I don’t wish bad on anyone but it seems that the only way some of these relics are ever going to get out of office is when they die. We the people talk about the burden we are going to leave upon our children and grandchildren. Well, for those over 40, We deserve the pain, not our children. We let this happen to our country.

Why should term politicians be provided pensions and health care on the backs of the people. They are well educated and paid sufficiently to provide for their own futures. Wouldn’t that be a great start to the cause. Cease pension funding of the top government branches. All branches below the White House, Senate and House that are not term politicians should have the opportunity to join 401K funds with a certain percentage being matched, IF, yearly milestone goals are met. Enough of the nonsense. the USA is broke!

Until and unless Americans press for real change, none will be forthcoming. And change will require sacrifice – something that the baby boomers and their children know very little about. As the recfent spate of man in the street interviews shows, most citizens have no clue about the issues facing the country, particularly those younger than 30. Wake up!!!!

This administration recently told all our border patrol to stand down! So they stand and watch them come in. A very dangerous situation. this President is committing treason in broad daylight and laughing at us.

Boarder control and the drug war costs cannot truly be measurable and they have produced extreme pain on the US. We have the light estimate of 11 million illegals and drugs are absolutely everywhere. Obama reminded us, when the current shut down began, that the goverment was the largest employer in the US. Is he aware the government does not make money???

Typical for government work and the self-important staff positions probably all getting paid over
    $100-200 G’s per year.

It’s truly astounding when you bring up FDR fighting a 2 front WW2 with 1/12 the staff. This was probably when each staff member made decisions that mattered.

What were Pres. Bush’s numbers for the same staffing? I wish we could get all of America to
open their eyes and see Obama for the lying hypocrite that he is.

How different was George W.’s staffing numbers and expenses? Seriously, it doesn’t justify or change the fact that Our current President would serve us all well by setting an example….I am just wondering…
