Running Mate Resemblances

email Email

Senator Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s choice for Vice President, bears a striking resemblance to Donald Trump’s running mate, Governor Mike Pence.

Both are deeply religious—Kaine is a committed Catholic, Pence an Evangelical Christian. Both have sons currently serving on active duty in the Marine Corps. Both have served in Congress, as well as running their states as governors.

Kaine is clearly more conservative than the progressive Hillary, and Pence is more clearly conservative than the populist Trump. Despite his lame and disappointing speech at the Democratic Convention on Wednesday night, Senator Kaine has another important attribute that he holds in common with Governor Pence: both men are more appealing, more qualified and less scandal-scarred candidates than their unpopular running mates.

In fact, Governor William Weld, the Vice Presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party, is also more impressive than his ticket mate, Governor Gary Johnson. If only Pence, Kaine and Weld replaced their counterparts in the presidential race, the frustrated public could celebrate an outstanding choice of three formidable White House contenders.

As a long time listener, I beg you to reconsider helping Hillary destroy our Supreme Court for generations. Our choice may be Bad or Worse, but Hillary is clearly Worse. I am sure you approved Trump's list of Supreme Court nominees. There is a growing belief that Trump may have a better campaign technique- make statements that force the media to cover and thereby starve the other candidates. Jeb proved that Trump's technique beats $$$$. To govern, he can be moderate and sensible and will save the Court from decades of liberal judges.

Sigh George, you REALLY believe that Trump will be, can be "moderate and sensible"? Haven't you been paying the least bit of attention? Honestly, EVERYTHING you hate about Hillary points to one thing: she's a politician. Trump on the other hand is, to put it in his most ardent fan's (Ann Coulter) words "mental". You REALLY want to give the nuke codes to an unstable person?

You hate Hillary so much you'd give command of the world's greatest military to a man who believes that his orders supersedes law, appointment of SCOTUS to a man who believes that the courts' sole duty is to validate his beliefs and interests, and who wants to strip the first amendment from any of the press that doesn't glorify him?

It's soul checking time. We aren't voting for a t.v. reality show. We're voting for the person that will sit in the world's most powerful office. The guy who will either be impeached or worst, drop us into WW3. Either way, it's not even about the party any more. They died the minute they nominated Trump. It's about America and the truly scary nut that you all want to hand over the nuke codes because you hate Hillary. Geez.

Sounds like somebody drank the Koolaid! The pollster who said that the campaign comes down to "a jackal and hyena fighting it out at the gates of hell" sounds about right to me!. I am loath to support either candidate, but will vote for the person pledged to appoint conservative judges for the Supreme Court.

I don't see Hillary as a paragon of sanity. You are worried he will launch when he shouldn't, while I worry she won't launch when she should. Democrats don't know how or why or when to use any of the military, and we will be lucky to get through the Obama Administration w/out a major attack, and our luck will run out during a Hillary administration. The weakness we are projecting makes Democrats feel Good about themselves but it invites attacks by N. Korea, Russia, China, and every radical group that wants to kill or convert the world. She can't be trusted.

I cannot ever, in good conscious vote for Hillary Clinton. Trump was not my first choice but I now have no choice. Not voting, as many of my friends will do, is not an option. Trump is a businessman and his running mate a great politician. And, by the way, I don't think the 2 VP candidates are that much alike. Kaine is absolutely very creepy looking!

Oh Micheal you kill me when you say things like: "the frustrated public could could celebrate an outstanding choice of three formidable White House contenders." You have great syntax sometimes and other times you can get under my skin with the more subtle phrases….like that one I can't even tell you why that phrase is grating but it is…. lol. We're not that frustrated and wouldn't be celebrating. They would be more of the same, not too outstanding in many minds and if they were the guys we'd all be going "Who the hell are these guys?" Not saying you're wrong…. but, yea, you're wrong.

You don't think people are frustrated? Then why do so many of Trump's supporters feel the need to qualify that they don't like him but the alternative is worse? Both candidates unfavorability numbers show that voters on both sides are holding their collective noses. My own disdain for Trump notwithstanding, I so thoroughly detest Hillary that I'm working my way up to voting for him. But he certainly isn't making it easy. So, yeah, I'm frustrated; I don't think I'm alone.
