Needed for the Movies: Better Bad Guys

email Email

Two of Hollywood’s biggest summer thrillers suggest that the chief threat to humanity comes from gigantic, vicious reptiles? Both PACIFIC RIM and Will Smith’s AFTER EARTH forced their intrepid heroes to confront these Godzilla wanna-bes to save the human race.

In WORLD WAR Z, a similar menace came from hordes of zombies, and in MAN OF STEEL we needed protection from invading space aliens.

Only two major releases even alluded to terrorism: in IRON MAN 3, the terrorist threat was a total fraud perpetrated by greedy corporate interests and in WHITE HOUSE DOWN the Republican warmongers and those greedy corporations collaborated to recruit the terrorists.

Many disillusioned moviegoers lament the lack of heroes in contemporary film, but it’s hard to rally to good guys when movies can’t even offer credible and compelling bad guys.

You are forgetting Star Trek. The villain was indeed a terrorist.

Did you see that movie? The ‘bad guy’ turned out to be a war-mongering white guy…

Yes, I did. I was referring to Benedict Cumberbatch’s character though.

Even James Bond used to fight evil Russians but now, disgruntled fellow agents.

PC has made everyone scared to “offend” anyone but you know who. Look at the robbers in all the ADT and other home security commercials. Even the new home insurance commercial shows two white guys robbing a home. I’ll give it to LifeLock tho, they had an Asian hacker in their commercial. He would be considered white-Asian wouldn’t he?

The quality of today’s movies is the worst in the history of the business; no acting, no writers, no directors, no producers, if it wasn’t for special effects, the industry would or should dry up.

What about one of the best movies out there…Apollo 13, there was no “bad guy”?

There were two movies in 2012, nominated for oscars by far, left-wing liberals, that had dark-skinned muslims as the bad guys (which is what you want right? No warmongering white guys or Americans–just blacks and arabs and foreigners –anything else is being “politically correct”). By the way, if you actually watch these movies from the “golden years,” you’ll find a lot of “political correctness” and liberal hog-washing. Ford, Mann, Wilder, Welles, etc. were all of the bleeding heart do goodery type…

If you really crave minority villians so much there are a lot of recent films to watch: Red Dawn, Black Hawk Down, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, Body of Lies, The Siege, etc. There are certainly some moments of political correctness in these films–you know, like the main character giving some liberal, hippie spiel about how “not all muslims are bad,” etc. but it’s not like it’s hard to find or anything.
