Whatever Happened to “The Party of the Little Guy”?

Democrats have always identified themselves as “the party of the little guy,” but in 2016 they lost tens-of-millions of aggrieved, out-of-luck voters to a boisterous billionaire named Donald Trump. Why? Because of the party’s self-destructive obsession with race and gender. The real dividing line between families that are forging ahead and those who are falling behind is based more on economics and education, rather than race and gender.

A white, male high school dropout in Appalachia is hardly privileged, while a black woman like Michelle Obama, with degrees from Princeton and Harvard, is hardly oppressed. Trump won white males without college degrees by a 3-1 margin and he even won non-college white women by nearly two-to one.

It’s dangerous to talk about “white male privilege” when the lived experience of so many white males, and their wives and daughters, hardly feels privileged. In fact, many working-class whites feel gypped and disrespected, and expect a better deal from President Trump.

Michael, I wholeheartedly concur with every syllable! I am very happy to be able to say that again. My current worry with the GOP now though is WHAT APPEARS TO BE dragging their feet (kicking the proverbial can down the road) for cutting taxes and cutting government and repealing Obamacare and open borders. This will NOT sit well with the electorate (on both sides of the Atlantic) IF it's business as usual for the GOP.

I have believed for quite sometime that there would be push back for Black Lives Matter and Leftist indoctrination. I'm not White (or Hispanic or Black) but I grew up in a generation where racial equality was the goal; how can we be equal if one race is given preferential treatment (entry into colleges, promotions, raises)? As a stickler for fairness, it galls me when in the name of equality, we have to promote inequality. And I am so sick of having to pay for something that happened 200 years before I was born! I am tired of the one race awards that would cause an uproar if it was an all White award show. And if I hear one more time how some Black person "finally" won or got something, I am going to scream! We had 8 years of a man that was supposed to "pay" the race card; that would show that America is NOT racist, only to have us more divided than ever.

Did those in Academia and Hollywood ever think that people would get tired of turning on the t.v. to see same sex couples making out or using Bush and Chaney as examples of liars in crime busting shows? That eventually America would turn to someone who would react to their intellectual bullying with a shrug and a so what? (I AM so looking forward to the day when BLM comes at Trump for some slight done to Blacks and he says "and your point is?")

Oh don't get me wrong, I still blame the talk show mafia who has created their own "entitlement" base; entitled to job protectionism, government solutions, and job creations without necessary skills and training. They have jumped on the bash GOP bandwagon and caused the destruction of the only viable party that could offer any alternative to liberalism.

But the last 8 years of Obamanism has gone a long way in pushing America toward putting in a bully that is ridiculously unqualified to be president. I remember when the "base" complained about Bush and McCain and Romney and all the GOP, allowing Obama to get in, not once but 2 times. I told them as I am saying now, look in the mirror whenever you feel like screaming.

The democrat party has become the party of the privileged elite and the underclass and uninformed. To keep their political power they need new "oppressed" groups to add to their coalition of the minority. This explains their fanatic resistance to any immigration restrictions. They have almost succeeded in that we now have more people living in the United States that were not born here than in the last over 100 years! In a way I hope they don't figure it out, but I also hope the Republicans in the future will not shirk from standing up to the typical attacks of the left – racism, sexism, etc. etc. ad naseum… Trump has shown the way, Republicans don't have to be cowards in the face of the left wing attack machine.

Your common sense, well spoken, fair minded commentary, Michael, has made me a long standing fan. You've hit the democrats problem square on the head. They rail against the death penalty for criminals, yet champion abortion, even to the extent of late term abortions. They ban cigarette smoking, then champion marijuana legalization. I was particularly galled at the Seattle press's labeling of Trumps temporary ban from nations that sponsor terrorism as a "Muslim ban" when the three largest Muslim nations were not even included in President Trump's order. Where was these marcher's rage against the tyrants running these countries,? It's clear going forward that the left is going to nip at the president's heels for his whole term. And YOU nailed it by pointing out how their party has been taken over by irrational extremists. America needs two rational parties, but we won't have that if one of them (Democrats) continues to commit suicide to the detriment of themselves and the nation.

Well spoken, Harvey; my sentiments exactly!
