U.S. President Barack Obama comforts a student overcome with emotion after speaking with the graduating class from Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis

The White House initiative to protect college students from sexual assault raises obvious questions: why trust Joe Biden and the feds to protect your children instead of counting on universities that already take thousands in your tuition money?

Moreover, administration numbers on this issue obviously distort the truth. The White House claimed one-of-five female college students suffer sexual assault during campus years, but Justice Department data show this estimate is at least 600 percent too high.

The administration figures come from a laughable telephone survey that asked questions about whether students “had ever been pressured to have sex” or had “been lied to for sex” with any yes answer yielding a new “assault victim.” This is just another White House boondoggle, and an attempt to generate groundless hysteria, in hopes of taking attention from more serious problems.
