Why They Can’t Hide 20 Million Illegals

Any constructive discussion of immigration issues must rely on facts, not just feelings. Unfortunately, some of the loudest voices in this debate frequently cite a number with no basis in reality, claiming 30 million illegal immigrants in the United States. The actual number, according to all credible sources, is 11 million. It would be impossible to hide nearly 20 million people from ruthless politicians–Democrats would find the missing illegals to build their own power with more federal funds and more representation in Congress.

Under the Constitution, the House is apportioned based on the “whole number of persons” in a district, not limited to citizens or legal residents. Democrats have every reason to overestimate the number of illegals, not underestimate them. Twenty million more undocumented immigrants works out to 25 seats in the House of Representatives. No working politician, liberal or conservative, would ever ignore or obscure such significant numbers.

I just dont get the complexity of the immigration issue. I believe that almost everyone agrees that LEGAL immigration is a thing. Besides it is what helped out country flourish. But…..ILLEGAL immigration is a bad thing because we are a nation of law and believe in the rule of law. ILLEGAL aliens are breaking our laws. So build a barrier at our southern border to keep people rerouted to the front door. That way we can admit people that are beneficial to our country. As for the illegals all ready here…..they need to go back home (where ever in hell that is), apply for citizenship and do things the legal way and the way we want to admit them. For those anchor babies….they go home with their parents and have dual citizenship and can come back when they are old enough to travel. If they want to sponsor their parents we have a means for that to happen. We are just making this to complicated.

lee…. it seems to me that the US called the poor….wanting to be free. Is that not who
the illegals are? So if you are a poor heart surgeon…or tech guru you are welcome but
if not … hit the road? The anchor baby part I agree with…. We need a renewal of
Mccain Kennedy which was a logical method of resolution…. but no …we go on into

Then how come I have been hearing the number of illegals in the country is at least 10 million now for some 20 years. Why would the number stabilize at 11 million if we have been having millions come in over the course of the last 20 some years? I think it might help Democrats more to hide the true number in order to keep the anti illegal movement from getting too much traction. If America truly knew that some 30 or 40 million people in America were in fact illegal, that might just set off the kind of firestorm of anti illegal immigration that has recently been set off with all the Planned Parenthood revelations. There may not be 30 million, but I wouldn’t be surprised with at least 20 million, by now. Unless there have been a lot of self deportations.

(Illegal) Immigration is a big problem so let’s go to Problem Solving 101. If you have a big problem, break it into several smaller ones. Thus, there are only two groups of illegal aliens we have to worry about: those already here and those who aren’t here yet. Until we can separate these two groups we can never address or solve the problems of either one. As Michael has pointed out, about half of illegals did not cross the Mexican border so this is not a ‘racial’ problem. The leakiness of the border is only part of the problem but a highly visible and relatively straightforward solution is available – build the wall. At the same time we need to reform our student visa monitoring and other immigration programs to be sure they are not abused (overstayed). This can be done independent of the wall. Together we can separate the “ins” from the “outs”. Then, and only then, can we address the two separate groups. In other words, don’t put the cart before the horse. Enough for now.

I don’t think we should “round up” the illegals that are already here unless they have criminal records. Nor do I think we should ever give the illegals here U.S benefits, the right to vote, or jobs (unless they are in a guest worker program). We should be trying to stop the visa over-stays, border crossings and any other means of illegal entry.

    you’re wrong medved.

simple rule of thumb…take ANY number the govt admits to they don’t want to acknowledge and triple it.

they say 11m…that makes it 30m+…guaranteed!

always remember, for every $1 an uneducated illegal, a person who is illiterate in their OWN language, contributes in taxes, they remove $3 in benefits.

You nailed it. 3 mil in 1986, add just 1 mil per year, and presto 32,000,000!
