WORKING TOWARD RECOVERY
On January 31st, I sent an open letter to my “radio family” about my throat cancer and the course of treatments that would take me off the air for some time as I recovered. The response from listeners was overwhelming and deeply touching: we heard from literally thousands of people, many of whom had gone through their own experiences with similar health problems and come out strengthened and renewed. It was wonderfully encouraging to hear these stories of hope and determination. I’m convinced that the prayers and good wishes of so many of you have made an unmistakable contribution to a similar outcome in my situation. At this point, I’ve successfully completed my radiation and chemotherapy treatments, and after several weeks in the hospital I’m home with my family. In fact, my brother Harry and his wife and children will be joining us for the Passover holiday. I’m writing – columns, commentaries and progress on my book – but most of all I’m concentrating on building health and energy every day. As soon as my voice returns in full force, I’ll go back on the air for the daily broadcast. But following the advice of both my doctors and my radio team, I want to return only when I’m fully ready. Meanwhile, I’ve been blessed by the best fill-in hosts on radio: my good friends David Boze, Mark Davis and Arthur Brooks. The spring season, with its Easter and Passover holidays, is associated with fresh starts and new life. The Medved family looks forward to both in the weeks ahead.
