Don’t go see “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” unless you want to become really depressed.

It’s the worst yet in the series that purports to be a reboot of the original camp comedy “Planet of the Apes” movies of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

For instance nowhere in the film will you watch an actor of James Gregory aplomb as General Ursus parodying George Patton’s famous speech rallying his troops to mortal combat.

Wherein the original Planet of the Apes movies almost all the witty lines by all the actors were delivered tongue-in-cheek for comic irony this version is a dramatization of how ignorant fools start wars out of fear, stupidity and blind bigotry.

Movies by definition must be at least minimally entertaining or they fail the acid test for their creation.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes fails the test miserably.
