I heard your review of Mockingjay part 2 and I wanted to take you to task a little bit for it. You may not have liked the end of the series but the last movie followed the book pretty closely. It hit all of the major events of the book and was very satisfying at the end. It was grim because the last half of the book was about a battle and a betrayal. It seemed to me that the director handled Philip Seymour Hoffman’s disappearance well because he wasn’t that important to the last part of the book, anyway. Katniss got the right villain and the right guy in the end. To me, it was a very well-done movie and a very cohesive series.

Saw this film Thursday. Dunno if you read the series, Michael, but if you had you would’ve appreciated it more because this finale was very faithful. Even so, both Mockingjay movies could’ve easily made a single, better-paced 3-hour movie. The setup here was a bit slow considering it was part 2, but the action scenes were the best in the series, and Banks and Tucci’s characters were hardly supposed to appear at all in the final book. The tone was supposed to be somber and sad, but the ending was still satisfying. I thought this film was the weakest in the series, but enjoyed the strong performances, action scenes and emotional resonance. The conclusion was (mostly) satisfying. It just depends on how familiar you are with the source material/franchise.
