Love your show, but I disagree on the “masterpiece” assessment of Lincoln. I thought it was an average film masquerading as a great one. If you take away the historical significance, all you have is a cast of people with endless facial hair crammed into period costumes, reciting lines that the world will “little note nor long remember.”

This film, with it’s thinly veiled metaphor about modern-day Republican obstructionism is a movie that was engineered to be an Oscar winner, and sadly I am sure it will succeed.

My wife and I were expecting so much… but 10 minutes into the movie we both started to doze off.

The acting was good but the historical facts were misleading. For example, there were no black Union soldiers at Gettysburg. It also has subtle political undertones.

The movie has nothing to do with “Lincoln’s life”… but takes place over a few weeks in Congress with courtroom like drama over getting slavery abolished.

Les Mes was 100% better and will probably get fewer nomination from the Academy.

I saw this movie twice. I love history but did not know all that went into passing the 13th amendment. The inner workings of congress was a “joy to comprehend” and Lincoln’s story telling alone was mesmerizing, I had to hear them all again! I plan on seeing this movie a 3RD time. Also Michael was right about the tacky scenes, this movie didn’t need them.

I’mm sorry, I thought this film was just awful. I suffered through the first half and turned it off. Simply didn’t find how folks in the 1860s passed legislation back that interesting.

I liked the movie, liked your review of it. In fact, I did purchase the Blue Ray Disc of the film and have viewed it many times. I personally think the screen play was fantastic, certain accurate historical but minor facts notwithstanding. Acting superior, vote drama in meeting room wonderful. Great movie making all around. This is not, nor ever formulated to be a documentary. It’s a movie and a great one at that! For me, never boring.
