I listened to MMs comment about this Training Video
and I disagree with his conclusion that
it was poorly done and incorrect since the school
and the teachers should be the ones to provide the
security. This is true but not the reality of this
day. The film was excellent as a local production
of a school….this was not Hollywood and I suspect
it had no Hollywood budget. The young actress who
played Alice was very good. I think it is FAR better
to teach our children to be active and fight back
rather than to hide and be murdered. MM said the
passengers on flight 93 on 9/11 were heroes –
were they not doing what this video advocates?

I often enjoy listening to Mr. Medved’s show on 660 KSKY, but Wednesday’s show was an exception. I was disturbed and saddened at the manner in which Michael and his staff (I heard the not-so-off-mic laugh) glibly ridiculed and dismissed the A.L.I.C.E. video. Mr. Medved, who says such a training — directed at children (and, not adults acting childishly) — precludes a response by trained / armed adults? Do you really think children of the age shown in this video are too young, or too emotionally fragile to learn what to do — while adults are responding — other than be sitting ducks? I agree with JGUY that the video is excellent FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. I frankly don’t know what got into you on Wednesday. You owe Kate (Alice) and the other students, Mr. H, Officer John Warner, school officials, and the parents of that community an explanation and an apology. I hope this embarrassing episode is simply a result of your ignorance of the topic of how to respond to an active shooter in a school, church or synagogue setting. You can rectify your deficiency of knowledge by inviting one of the world’s foremost experts on the topic onto your show. His name is Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, and I am proud to call this fellow “sheepdog” my friend and mentor. I have attended several of his training seminars, and they have included most, if not all, of the A.L.I.C.E. action points. You can learn about and contact Lt. Grossman at: Please notify me when he will be on your show and I will tune in again and ask my family, friends, and professional colleagues to do the same.

    Hi Michael,

I enjoy your show everyday. I watched the entire video and thanks for posting it. I agree with JGUY and Texas Peace Officer. In the terrible case of a school shooting, I can see how following the ALICE instructions gives everyone at the school a better chance at surviving and preventing others from being killed. For someone deranged enough to kill kids at a school, your not going to provoke them even more by attempting to stop the intruder.

I’m with Michael on all points. This is bad advice, these are kids. They will forget the stupid video and try to escape. The one or couple who throw a book or charge the the attacker will get shot first while the others attempt to escape. There are better ways that schools can address the very rare chance of a gunman entering the school. Schools need to be responsible for safety.

    This is a good video.
    1. It teaches children that they have a right to defend themselves and others.
    2. It takes away fear, because now they have a planned response. This is important.
    3. It gives hope.
    4. Other students who are thinking about being a school shooter will be discouraged from attempting it because usually these types are wanna be’s desiring one moment of glory. The probability of being embarrassedly defeated takes all the glory out of it.
    5. It confirms the right to bear arms; the anti-gunners will pick up on this in a split second.

I taught some of these principles to my children’s martial art students. Very successfully received by both children and parents. Also said that just because you get shot doesn’t mean you are going to die; people get wounded all the time. Be brave, keep going.
