Leave a commentI heard Michael telling the story behind the Pilgrims coming to America this past Sunday. Is it in book form? Or, how do I find it on this web sight. I would very much like to have a copy of that story – leaving England to Holland, back to England and finally here – and the English-speaking Indian.

LOL…that's the best whitewashing of the story I've ever heard! There are some real facts in there though. My Dad lent me a history book written by Edward Rowe Snow that I wish I had kept …he was a well known New England historian. The book was filled with extensive research about that time period. I left tear stains on the pages it was so upsetting. Later, I spent years among the Wampanoags and other local Natives to learn more when I was doing my own research for my thesis. This message is not correct in its assessment but it makes a nice story… it's certainly not a benign story as he makes it out to be! It was much more hostile and cruel. We all grew up on history books written by credentialed men that whitewashed U.S. history. Not just this story but this one seems to be the most pervasive. The Native community considers it a day of mourning for good reason because it was the beginning of the end. He's trying to continue a false narrative of these people being good Christians and the Natives being lucky to encounter such righteous people. We all know what Christian explorers, missionaries and individuals did in the name of Jesus Christ to the Native communities and most of it was cruel, abusive, exploitive, deceptive, and violent.
